It was a week to remember for Academy coach Tom Devine who joined The PGA Swingzone at St Andrews for the 150th Open Championship.
The Swingzone has been running for a number of years now and was an initiative launched by The PGA and The R&A, designed to give all spectators the opportunity of a free 15 minute golf lesson with a PGA Professional. This year at St Andrews, Tom was one of 29 coaches who across the week gave over 3000 free golf lessons to spectators at The Open.
Tom said "To be given the opportunity to coach at the Open was great....the fact it was the 150th at the Home of Golf made it just that extra special. It was great to be around the place, whilst catching some of the academy members up there made for a nice surprise!"
As for the result itself, it really was looking like it was going to be Rory's week. In honesty, if it wasn't for a freak last round by Cameron Smith, it would have been! It sure must have been a bitter pill to swallow for Rory, who hit all 18 greens in the last round but could only find 2 birdies.
I suppose it's all eyes on the 151st now......at Royal Hoylake! Who's keen??
A fantasic couple of days and great to see you Tom, the boys were really pleased to catch up with you! Would recommend Open camping to anyone right by the 17th Road Hole at St Andrews and a one minute (if that) walk to get on the course! Gutted Rory did not win, the best putter did
