Torren Matthews fired a stunning 64 last week to clinch the 1836 Tour Event at Heart Golf Club. Torren has had a slow start to the season after suffering heavily with Covid but now feels he is back to full fitness and is excited for the year ahead.
Torren tore the course to shreds, leaving shots out there. Torren suggested "I left at least 4 shots out there, it could have been a really special round." Torren beat a classy field including Alex Belt and Joe Dean. Hopefully the win is a sign of things to come after regaining his fitness and starting to feel comfortable with his game.
Torren started working with new Head Pro, Phil Akers, in February and they finally feel that things are starting to come together after some slow starts to the season and missing out at the first stage of Open Qualifying at Alwoodly by a couple of strokes.
Phil said "I'm so happy for Torren getting the win. I went to watch Torren a few weeks ago and he couldn't have unluckier during Open Qualifying. All parts of his game have been coming together but he's had a bad string of illness and injury over the early part of the year so it's nice to see all of that behind him and being able to work on his game properly. We had a lesson the day before and we both felt that every part of his game was ready to fire, it was just a point of being patient and letting it happen."
Congratulations Torren from all of us at Oulton Academy.
